Hormone Replacement Therapy

Optimizing your hormones using BHRT

BHRT stands for Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement therapy. This is a form of hormone optimization therapy that is quite different from the days of just writing a prescription for premarin for a woman or telling a man he is just getting older. BHRT is a way to use smaller amounts of hormones that are derived from naturally occurring sources and compounded by pharmacists into forms that are identical (same chemical structure) to the hormones that our own bodies produce. The problem with pharmaceutical versions is that they are generally "altered" in some way so that while they are "similar" to the hormones our bodies make, they are not identical.

Hormone Imbalance Symptoms in Women

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Less energy
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Mental fog
  • Hot flashes or night sweats
  • Anxiety or depression or general mood swings
  • Reduced muscle mass and increased body fat

Hormone Imbalance Symptoms in Men

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Less energy
  • Less strength and stamina
  • Sadness or irritability
  • Less strong erections
  • Falling asleep after dinner or just very tired earlier in the evening
  • Decrease in work or sports performance
  • Reduced muscle mass and increased body fat

Potential Benefits of BHRT

BHRT is complex and must be done carefully working with your primary care provider and compounding pharmacist.  However, when done correctly, over a relatively short period of time you can experience the reversal of many if not all of the symptoms listed above.  Our hormones decline dramatically as we age - reversing that trend is key to staying younger, feeling younger and looking younger.

Who Should Not Take BRT

Any male or female with hormone related cancers or very strong family history of hormone related cancers (breast cancer, prostate cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer etc)
